At precisely 7:00 AM this morning, the bedroom light switched on, and my alarm began to blare. I blinked wearily and groaned, "Alexa, stop!".

My sympathetic assistant turned off the alarm. I crawled from bed, dressed, and stumbled downstairs for a much-anticipated smoke and coffee.

Unfortunately, the cat met me at the bottom of the staircase, plaintively demanding her breakfast. I followed Velvet into the kitchen, spooned out some cat food, and sat the bowl onto the floor. And since I was kneeling next to it, I reached across and pushed the start button of my robotic vacuum.

As I swallowed my morning pills—us elderly folk go through a lot of those—the robot backed from its dock, turned around, and returned to clean its mop. Then, while I cleaned my teeth, the robot proceeded to vacuum and mop the kitchen floor.

By the time my morning ablutions were complete, the robot had begun to vacuum the large rug dominating my dining room. I returned to the kitchen and popped a couple of slices of bread into the toaster.

Breakfast was almost complete when the robot returned to clean its mop and refill its water tank. Then, as I poured a fresh cup of coffee, the robot resumed its cleaning routine.

Ten minutes later, its job complete, the Roborock S7 MaxV returned. Its dock rewashed the robot's mop, vacuumed out its dustbin, and began to recharge its battery.


The Roborock S7 MaxV is 13.8 inches in diameter with a deck that hovers 3.15 inches above the floor. The tiny dome housing this device's lidar assembly raises the robot's total height to 3.8 inches.

This robot's mop applies firm downward pressure and vibrates as it is dragged across the floor. When encountering a rug or carpet, the mop rises, allowing the robot to continue vacuuming.

Lidar provides navigational support aided by the ReactiveAI 2.0 Obstacle Avoidance System.

A 5200mAh battery supplies enough power to allow up to three hours of continuous operation.

Dock Options

The Roborock S7 MaxV includes a small, low-profile dock that recharges the vacuum.

Those who order the S7 MaxV Plus package also receive the Roborock Auto-empty Dock. This large and elegant dual-cylinder device sucks debris from the vacuum each time it docks. It can be used for up to two months between vacuum bag replacements. This dock also recharges the robot's battery.

The S7 MaxV Ultra package includes the Roborock Empty Wash Fill Dock. This is a large utilitarian apparatus that emphasizes functionality. Each time the S7 MaxV docks, the device vacuums accumulated debris from its dustbin and recharges the robot's battery.

This dock also cleans the robot's mop and, if required, adds water to its tank. The dock performs this service before the robot leaves and after it completes its cleaning routine. If the mop becomes dirty or the water tank requires a fill-up midway through a cleaning routine, the robot makes a quick pitstop at the dock.

This robotic vacuum is equipped with LIDAR (light detection and ranging). A turret-based laser illuminates objects, assisting in determining their location, size, shape, and distance.

An ultrasonic sound sensor located beneath the robot identifies floor areas covered by a carpet or rug.

The ReactiveAI 2.0 Obstacle Avoidance System, powered by an RGB camera, 3D structured light, and a neural processing unit, recognizes objects in its path and cleans around them. This system correctly noted and avoided my stage piano's foot pedal and power cables, a tower fan, rocking chair, and my bathroom scale during tests.

This information is used to compile a map of the cleaning area. The first time I ran the Roborock S7 MaxV, it vacuumed and mopped, systematically making its way around the house. Once the first cleaning was completed, the resulting map included every room. Carpets and rugs were identifiable as slightly darker areas on the application's floor plan.

The Roborock Application

This application allows a smartphone to monitor and control the robotic vacuum, reading the maps produced by the vacuum and adjusting specific parameters. The operator can set barriers and exclusion zones. Suction and mop vibration rates can be adjusted individually for each room.


The thresholds that separate rooms are sometimes too high for a mop-equipped robotic vacuum to cross. The Roborock S7 MaxV automatically lifts its mop bracket during these situations and successfully navigates every threshold within my house.

Several rugs were used to test the ability of the Roborock. The vacuum played well with the large area rug in my living room and my well-secured Turkish rug.


Battery Life

This robot is equipped with a powerful 5200mAh lithium battery and can operate for 180 minutes.

It takes about 47 minutes to vacuum and mop the first floor of my medium-sized house. After the job is complete, the battery's level drops to approximately 73 percent.


As the vacuum enters each room, it circles and edge-cleans. Then it changes to a Z pattern, sucking up the debris it encounters. The Roborock application can send the robot to specific rooms or unusually dirty areas.

This vacuum may be scheduled to start at a specific time each day. It can also be controlled using the Roborock application or by pushing the vacuum's start button.


Floor Washing

Once the mop bracket is installed, this robot automatically enters its mopping mode. While cleaning, the device simultaneously vacuums and mops.

When not traversing a carpet or rug, the mop remains in its lower operating position, maintaining 600 grams of pressure against the floor. Vibration may be turned off or set to the desired rate. Water is fed to the mop from a 200-milliliter tank.

When the robot reaches a rug, it raises the mop five millimeters from the floor and vacuums the rug in a Z-pattern. Once vacuuming is complete, the robot lowers its mop and reverts to its regular cleaning pattern.

Overall Impression

This robotic vacuum is exceptionally agile, vacuums well, and benefits from excellent battery life. Its navigational system and ability to map ensure that even large cleaning areas are vacuumed quickly and competently.

It can traverse the difficult thresholds between my rooms and has never lodged itself helplessly between low-hanging furniture and the floor. The robot's ReactiveAI system ensures it does not disturb the small objects not identified by the Lidar navigational system.

The S7 MaxV is equipped with the only competent mopping system I have ever encountered. It mops and vacuums simultaneously and, when traveling over a rug or carpet, temporarily lifts its mop, allowing the robot to continue to vacuum.

My system includes the Roborock Empty Wash Fill Dock. It can empty the robot's dustbin every day for periods as long as seven weeks between vacuum bag changes. During my tests, I ran the vacuum for six days before I was required to empty the dock's dirty water and refill its clean water tank.

If you are looking for a robotic vacuum capable of effectively vacuuming and mopping your house, the Roborock S7 MaxV represents your best choice. For those that want to automate this job as much as possible, I recommend the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra.
