With simple changes to my interiors, I managed to make my home an elderly compatible one.

As the weather begins warming up, it's time to start thinking about how you can keep your home cool. Since we have to spend most of our time indoors right now, it becomes important to take proper measures to reduce the overall warmth in high-volume spaces. In such situations, the cool interior of the house is capable of making the house ventilated and open. Here are some ways to keep the interior of the house cool and soothing.

Making alterations to your home to make it appear cool and retain less heat can make a big difference in the summer.
Making alterations to your home to make it appear cool and retain less heat can make a big difference in the summer.

Use Light-Coloured Curtains

It's essential to pick the right fabric for curtains, as you need to protect your rooms from the scorching heat of the sun. Light-coloured curtains are suitable during this summer season.

If direct sunlight is coming through the window, then set two types of curtains. Put light-coloured net curtains near the window and thick, cloth curtains over it to prevent rays of the sun entering the house. With net curtains, you can enjoy the warm sunshine in the morning and when the day starts to grow and the sunlight comes in the room, then put the other curtain on it.

You can also put natural materials like jute or bamboo screens on the windows to prevent the heat.

Covers and Cushions

Couch covers and cushions placed on the sofa, if decorated with light-coloured covers, will help to create a feeling of coolness in the house. Interior designers explain that the more light colours you use in the summer season, the more relaxed the eyes will be.

In addition to using light colours for table cloths of a centre table or dining table, it would also be better to use light colours for your bedsheets.

Avoid Carpet in Summers

If you have still not removed the carpet from the living room, do not be late anymore. This decoration item in the summer season creates a warm atmosphere.

If you have to do something unique to give the floor a different look, then you can use thin rugs made of jute or cotton threads.

Leave Space for Ventilation

The interior of your house plays an important role in making your home open and airy. If your drawing room is small, then you should choose a sofa set that takes less space. Also, it should not look too heavy to observe.

If the centre table is large, then the room will look very compact and small. Do not make the decoration of the drawing room too heavy. Otherwise, the room will look even smaller and a lack of ventilation will make the room feel suffocated. If you use sofa covers, then use thin and light-coloured covers to suit the summer season.

You can also use floral print covers for a change, which will give you the feeling of freshness. Also, do not put anything between the window and the sofa—so that there is no obstruction in the way of air. That way, whenever you open the window, there will be no problem with air ventilation.

Decorate fresh flowers around the window. They will keep the freshness of the room intact. Whenever the wind blows through the window, the fragrance of flowers will make the room aromatic.

Window Mirrors

Nowadays, window mirrors are available in various markets. They only allow the sun's rays into the house and prevent harmful ultraviolet rays and infrared rays from passing through. These glasses are extremely popular in Europe and America. If these mirrors do not mess up your budget, then put similar mirrors on the windows.

Paint the Walls With Bright Colors

If you are thinking of painting the walls, then you can choose new colours for each wall. Some bright colours also give a fresh look. A soft and bright colour combination on the walls gives the eyes a soothing effect and helps them relax. If you have recently painted the walls, then you can apply wallpaper instead for a new and fresh look.

You can also replace a painting in the room to bring a cool originality to the space.

Start Growing Some Indoor Plants

Plants act as natural air conditioners, which help to keep the house naturally cool. Whenever you are coming from outside and you see the beautiful green plants, your mood will be freshened up.

If you get tired of working on the laptop or you feel tired while studying, then these plants will make you feel fresh.

Exchange Old Bulbs With CFLs

If you have an old bulb in a lampshade, it is time to replace it with a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) bulb. Old bulbs produce a lot of heat, which can contribute to the overall warmth of a space.
