There are some times that I see people being so creative when it comes to their DIY’s that I can’t help but wonder how they were inspired, and how they managed to complete the whole project by themselves. One such source of inspiration is Lauren, known on TikTok as @farmhouseish. She’s been on a mission to revamp the pantry area in her kitchen, and her latest project has captured the attention of DIY enthusiasts and design lovers alike.
Lauren decided that her beautifully redone pantry lacked a certain je ne sais quoi. Her solution? Crafting stunning black-framed bifold glass doors from scratch. It’s a project that might seem daunting to the average DIYer, but luckily Lauren is no novice. Check out how she pulled it all together in the video below!
Lauren’s first step was constructing the general frame for the doors. This involved creating four large rectangles out of wood to form two frames for each door. Using 1x2s and scrap 1x12s, she managed to keep the project affordable without compromising on quality.

Bifold Barn Doors Are the Answer to Anyone's Rustic Home DIY Dreams
Barn and bifold doors combine to make something even better.
To add both aesthetics and functionality, small panels were added to the bottom quarter of the frames. This design choice meant that the glass—or in this case, acrylic—wouldn’t have to span from top to bottom, providing a chic look while ensuring durability (which is necessary when we are talking about the doors to an often-used pantry).
Instead of going for traditional glass, Lauren took a creative and cheaper route by purchasing large sheets of acrylic. She then cut these sheets at home, which can be challenging in and of itself if you are not sure what you are doing. The acrylic panes were carefully inserted and caulked into place, followed by the addition of a backing frame to secure everything together.
The finishing touches included the frames being painted black before sleek black door handles that complement the frames’ color are added. The installation process was a critical step, involving the addition of brackets to the pantry frame and hinges to the insides of the paired frames. The result? A set of bifold doors that not only enhance the pantry’s appearance but also reflect Lauren’s innovative spirit and DIY prowess.
What’s particularly compelling about Lauren’s project is how it illustrates the potential of DIY to personalize and elevate your home. It challenges the whole idea that big transformations mean having a hefty budget and proves that with some creativity and elbow grease, you can achieve some pretty stunning results.
