The green wire has to be stretched really tight bending the other three wires. Is this normal?


Sometimes it works that way. One solution is to splice another piece of green wire onto the one in the cord with a wire nut, lengthening it. Other is to strip back some of the outer insulation sheath, leaving each individual wire longer. It probably isn't a good idea to leave any of them as tight as you describe, though.
